The ATA recognized the project at the Association's annual conference.

ORLANDO (April 25, 2017)—The Santana Telehealth Project was honored with the 2017 ATA Humanitarian Award. The project was recognized during ATA 2017: Telehealth 2.0—the American Telemedicine Association’s annual conference, on April 23 in Orlando, FL.

“I am proud that ATA is honoring the Santana Telehealth Project for using telemedicine to improve the lives of the poor and underserved in other parts of the world,” said Jonathan Linkous, CEO of ATA. “Telemedicine uses technology to transform the way health care is delivered. But ultimately, it’s not about the technology, it's about improving the lives of patients, no matter where they live.”

In partnership with the Milagro Foundation and the United States Foundation for the Children of Californias, the Santana Telehealth Project works to increase health care access through telehealth in underserved communities. The ATA Humanitarian Award was launched in 2013 and is ATA’s highest humanitarian honor. This prestigious award recognizes organizations who have distinguished themselves through dedication and commitment to widening international telehealth adoption in underserved communities. In 2013, ATA recognized the Lopez Family Foundation with the first Humanitarian award.
