WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 14, 2017)—Barbara McCann was named CEO and president of Community Health Accreditation Partner or CHAP Inc., after serving as interim president and CEO since July 2017.

McCann began her career as a medical social worker making home visits to home health and hospice patients. Her experience spans executive roles with national home care providers over the past two decades. She was previously at Interim Health where she served as the chief clinical officer, until the last five years where she served as chief industry officer in Washington D.C. McCann's career includes work in a variety of capacities with national organizations supporting the definition of quality care in the home and community, as well the development of measures to publicly demonstrate the value of this care. McCann is Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of California at Berkeley.

CHAP is an independent, nonprofit organization accrediting providers of home and community-based care. Founded in 1965, CHAP was first to recognize the need for and value of home and community-based care standards and accreditation. As a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)-approved accrediting organization, CHAP surveys organizations providing home health, hospice and home medical equipment services to establish if Medicare Conditions of Participation and DMEPOS Quality Standard are met and recommend certification to CMS. CHAP's purpose is to partner with organization nationwide to advance quality in the delivery of care and services in the home and community.

In June 2017, CHAP released the 2018 CHAP Standards of Excellence v.1 to equip home health providers with tools to meet changing CMS requirements to become effective January 13, 2018. The CHAP Standards of Excellence framework was redesigned to support a customized approach to accreditation that focuses on the specific types of care and services provided by each organization. In addition, the content of the Standards of Excellence was updated to better reflect current practices in quality improvement and the home care industry.
