WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 19, 2016)—Register today to be a part of the data-driven campaign to advocate for much-needed improvements to the audit process and see how your company stacks up in terms of audit volumes and appeal overturn rates.

Register today at HMEAuditKey.org and get ready to enter your Fourth Quarter 2015 audit data starting on January 15.

Some of the preliminary findings from the initial HME Audit Key test survey from earlier this year tracking audits received from October 2014 through June 2015 are below. While based on a small test pool of participants, the survey indicates that:

  • Suppliers appealed 80% of MAC prepayment denials for respiratory products, and 92% were overturned
  • 55% of ostomy, urological & wound care supply new patients are subject to MAC prepayment audit
  • Data analysis shows similarities between large national and small suppliers, dispelling the myth that large or small suppliers experience more or less audits
  • Over 86% of MAC prepayment audits of power mobility devices were paid upon review

These preliminary findings are intriguing, but we need to see what the data from a larger cohort will tell us about how HME suppliers are responding to RAC, MAC and SMRC audits nationwide.

How Do You Measure Up?
Companies representing more than 1,600 locations nationwide have already registered to share their data on audits and appeals, but more participation will make the results even better.

Companies submitting data will have access to their own quarterly survey results, and will also have access to aggregate results and key findings. Suppliers can use this information to see how they compare to others in terms of audit volumes and appeal overturn rates.

Your participation in the quarterly Audit Key will help the industry gather the data we need to make the case for reform, and will also help us identify new trends and developments in the audit space.
