Pharmacists and Hurricane Florence Relief

The homecare industry is well-known for its collective giving heart. The following are some recent announcements.

QS/1 at the NCPA Convention
QS/1 honored pharmacists at the 2018 National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Annual Convention by donating to charities in the name of three pharmacists. Attendees at NCPA had the chance to enter three drawings for $1,500 each to be donated to the charity of their choice in their name.

“We believe it is important for companies to be good stewards in their communities,” said Alan Turfe, chairman and CEO of South Carolina-based J M Smith Corporation, of which Smith Technologies LLC is a subsidiary and QS/1 part of that subsidiary. “This unique opportunity not only shows we live that standard every day, but by making a contribution in their name we also honor those pharmacy professionals who give of their expertise to help their communities.”

QS/1 is an active member at NCPA, which showcases pharmacy management systems that give community pharmacies the power to compete in today’s marketplace. Products featured at the Boston NCPA conference included NRx, PrimeCare, SharpRx, Mevesi and DeliveryTrack .

Founded in 1898, the NCPA is the voice for the community pharmacist, representing 22,000 pharmacies that employ 250,000 individuals nationwide.

Helping Hands After Hurricane Florence
The Association for Home & Hospice Care of North Carolina (AHHC of NC) and its charitable organization, the Hospice and Home Care Foundation of North Carolina, have established a fund for disaster relief for homecare and hospice employees in North Carolina, whose lives have been turned upside down by Hurricane Florence.

Homecare, home health and hospice nurses, aides, social workers, chaplains, therapists and administrators are still picking up the pieces in their own lives while ensuring the well-being of their patients. A tax-deductible donation could help ease the burdens faced. AHHC of NC President and CEO Tim Rogers asked for help during the 2018 National Association for Home Care and Hospice Convention and Expo.

All funds collected will be distributed directly to employees working in homecare and hospice who are in need. AHHC of NC and the Foundation will review applications for funds and determine distribution amounts based on need. For more information, visit ahhcnc.org/foundation.

Friends of Disabled Adults & Children (FODAC)
Georgia-based FODAC has served as a distributor of home medical equipment and assistive technology in the event of large population-affecting emergency situations. FODAC is looking to help those affected by Hurricane Florence and tropical storms in Hawaii and has established dropoff sites in Georgia and South Carolina. The organization will also be attending the upcoming Medtrade in Atlanta, which starts Oct. 15.

When a wheelchair, wheelchair parts or other medical supplies, including prosthetics or orthoses is donated, FODAC's team of volunteers refurbishes and customizes the equipment to fit the person in need. FODAC also helps with vehicles and home modifications. The organization accepts phone or walk-in requests for equipment, and medically-necessary requests receive top priority, followed by medically-helpful requests.

If you will be at Medtrade, FODAC is looking for bariatric and standard wheelchairs, CPAPs, nebulizers, hospital beds, bath safety equipment and transfer tub benches. For more information, visit fodac.org or Booth #2571 at Medtrade. Donations may also be shipped to FODAC, 4900 Lewis Road, Tucker, GA 30083.
