App allows for management and integration of caregiving team.

LEXINGTON, Mass. (February 14, 2018)—When Logan Wells, then a high school sophomore, watched his parents and aunt care for his grandmother after a dementia diagnosis, he felt helpless. But observing the process gave him an idea for one way he could make improvements: communication. With multiple people including family members and professional caregivers or nursing staff caring for a single individual, the burden remained on one person to coordinate care and communicate amongst the team.

And the Wells family is not alone in their struggle: The AARP reports that 40 million family caregivers provide $4.7 billion annually in unpaid care to a loved one. There had to be a better way.

Logan decided to solve the issue with technology. Now 17 and a high school senior, Logan, along with his parents Hallie and Eric Wells, have announced the launch of CareZare, an app built by caregivers, for caregivers to help them build and manage their caregiving team. CareZare addresses the pain points for the Wells family and millions of other caregivers: consistent information provided across the team of caregivers in an easily updated and accessible manner.

CareZare empowers caregivers to build and manage their own caregiving team, taking the burden off a single individual while providing better and more informed care. When a user downloads the CareZare app, they are able to:

  • Collaborate: Bring their team together to plan, schedule and track caregiving activities in real time.
  • Coordinate: Assign caregiving tasks and update needs and status on the fly.
  • Connect: Stay informed on their loved one’s day with live updates on care tasks, events and a full history of care at their fingertips.

Future plans for the CareZare app include expanding it as a platform to hook into other health care technologies, like wearables, to provide a 360-degree view of caregiving and health.

CareZare is available in the App Store and Google Play now. New users can receive a free 30-day trial of CareZare. Subscriptions are $9.95 per month and are based on the number of people being cared for (the team size is unlimited). CareZare also offers an enterprise solution for organizations such as care providers, assisted living and nursing homes.
